We're looking for an outstanding Product Design Lead / Head of Design to join our small, mighty team.

A successful candidate should be an experienced designer, as comfortable working on the big picture as the pixels. An energetic communicator who enjoys turning complex problems into powerful but simple user experiences. And someone who genuinely demonstrates that they understand the user and puts them first, every single day.

Salary: £50,000 - £80,000 + bonus on venture exits
Full-time remote (UK-only)

Your responsibilities:

To understand what you'll be doing, you'll need to understand how we work:

  • A new venture every year - which means you will need to be as happy ideating as iterating
  • We have stepped outside the flawed idealism of agile into using cycles - its realistic, its very fast and it means you design for the real problems as they happen, not the risky imaginary future solutions
  • We have a high volume user testing flow - you should be super focused on getting the best information out of users both face to face and in surveys
  • We are data driven
  • We expect clear (but collaborative) ownership
  • But above all; we always put the user first

Your responsibilities will be to:

  • Develop and own the design system
  • Run design sprints
  • Champion a design thinking mindset—a creative approach to solving business, product, and user problems
  • Work with the planning team to take verbal ideas to high level sketches and beyond
  • Work as one with development, product and marketing to define and execute on new & existing features
  • Kill your darlings; be open minded to changing problems but feel confident to challenge ideas
  • Understand the value of user testing and its influence on design choices
  • Ability to experiment with prototypes to constantly improve the clarity to testers
  • Lead, record & facilitate user testing; with an additional focus on improving the recruitment process Implement and hit UX Centric metrics
  • Develop organised ways of storing, accessing and using data to solve design problems
  • Drive continuous improvement of user experience and design tools, documentation, and processes
  • Develop and maintain all design assets
  • Drive the development and communication of design guidelines and patterns, with focus on providing a consistent and intuitive experience
  • Provide design leadership to technical teams by fostering a shared understanding of the customer-centric intersection between design, business and technology through on going application reviews

Design Lead requirements are:

  • Experience with design systems
  • Experience with design frameworks like Material
  • UI Experience in design ownership for SaaS products (experience in a small start up is a bonus)
  • Knowledge of complex product design; mastery in principles of web design
  • Knowledge of user interface design processes and methodology
  • Knowledge of User Centred Design Principles and Practices, and Outcome Driven Development
  • Proficiency in CSS / HTML
  • Someone who cares deeply about the user journey and is eager to stay connected with development at all stages
  • An excellent communicator and presenter, with interpersonal and analytical skills including the ability to communicate complex, interactive design concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organisation
  • Someone who cares about polish
